The Shanghai International Light Festival will venture beyond Shanghai for the first time and set up a sub-venue in Jinji Lake Scenic Area in Suzhou Industrial Park金鸡湖景区, a national 5A-level tourist attraction, from Sept. 19 to Oct. 16.
The Shanghai International Light Festival is regarded as one of the three biggest light festivals in the world, alongside the Festival of Lights in Lyon, France, and Vivid Sydney in Sydney, Australia. It generates over 4.9 billion yuan in consumer spending each year and has become a major cultural and tourism brand in China. This year, installations from the Jinji Lake sub-venue will also display at the festival's main venue, as well as cultural and creative products and local specialties from Suzhou.
A giant projection-mapping show that has thrilled audiences at previous editions will debut by Jinji Lake. The original production "Tracing the Light" will create a series of fantastical visual scenes spanning time and space.
The central installation of the sub-venue, "Between Spaces," will stand along the waterfront at Moon Harbor月光码头. It is comprised of seven colorful boxes and nine camphor trees, and will turn into a constantly changing display of light and color, symbolizing Suzhou's diversity, openness and inclusiveness.
A range of light installations and fashion collaborations will also make their debut. Moreover, the festival will introduce SIP's first Jinji Lake Robot Block, featuring representative companies in the field of embodied intelligence.
